Aegerter joins MV Agusta Forward Moto2 project for 2019

Dominique Aegerter has been officially confirmed as the new MV Agusta Forward Racing rider for the 2019 Moto2 world championship.

The Swiss rider takes up the position vacated after Romano Fenati had his contract terminated by the Italian squad following his shocking clash with Stefano Manzi during the Misano Moto2 race when he grabbed his rival’s brakes.

The incident led to his FIM racing licence being suspended for the remainder of 2018, along with losing both his current ride at Marinelli Snipers plus his future deal with the Forward squad.

Aegerter has duly picked up the role to head up the new MV Agusta partnership with Forward Racing running its own chassis during the first year of the new Triumph engine deal in the intermediate class.

The 28-year-old, who almost missed out on racing in Moto2 this year due to financial constraints with Kiefer Racing, currently sits 17^th in the riders’ championship ahead of the Valencia finale and grabbed his best result of the year with sixth place at Phillip Island.

Aegerter, a long-time Suter rider, also tightens the links between the two parties’ involvement in the MV Agusta-Forward Moto2 project.

“I’m very happy to become part of this new team with such an ambitious project,” Aegerter said. “It’s a source of great pride for me, as well as a great responsibility. I will give my best to get great results and bring MV in the positions it deserves.”

Team owner Giovanni Cuzari added: “I’m very happy to have chosen a good and experienced rider in the category as Dominique.

“I am convinced that he has the necessary qualities to contribute, together with my team, to achieve excellent results with our MV Agusta F2, to try to bring the Italian brand to the top of the rankings.”

The deal follows reports linking Fenati with a return to Marinelli Snipers in Moto3 for 2019.
