Solunion Aspar Team rider Aron Canet secured his maiden Moto2 podium this past Sunday with a brilliant performance from ninth on the grid at Portimao. The Portuguese Moto2 Grand Prix was a day of firsts for a few riders including rookie Raul Fernandez who claimed his maiden win, but it was also the first podium for Canet since making the transition from Moto3 in 2020. This podium should not come as a surprise though, as it was in fact very likely to happen sooner rather than later given the Spaniard’s impressive adaptation to the class last season. The former 2019 Moto3 runner-up finished six of the first seven races as a rookie inside the top ten in 2020, but had endured a slightly more difficult start to 2021 with a 13th in Qatar one, and retirement in the second race. However, Canet was one of the quickest riders during the Portimao race weekend and came through the field to lead the race before taking second in the podium battle between he, Remy Gardner and Joe Roberts. “It is one of the happiest days of my life, along with the day I got my first Moto3 podium. I will never forget it,” said Canet.  Related ArticlesaccImages.createImage(); Double podium for KTM Ajo team, Fernandez takes maiden Moto2 winaccImages.createImage(); 2021 Qatar Moto2 Official Test, Losail – Saturday Final”It’s time to enjoy, not every day you get to finish second in Moto2. I can’t articulate words. “We fought from the beginning, we lost positions, we stayed calm, we fought and we finished on the podium. “It is the third race of the year and we have reached the goal we had in mind at the start of the season. We have a good set-up and in Jerez we will continue this same line.”Related ArticlesaccImages.createImage(); 2021 Qatar Moto2 Official Test, Losail – Saturday FinalaccImages.createImage(); Moto2: Xavi Cardelus returns to replace Aron Canet at Aragon
