Afridza Munandar has been killed during Race 1 of the Sepang round in the 2019 Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup which saw the race red flagged.On Lap 1 at Turn 10 of the opening race an incident occurred involving Munandar which saw the race red flagged with the 20-year-old given immediate medical care trackside before being taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital by medical helicopter.Despite the efforts of the medical teams at the track and at the hospital Munandar has succumbed to his injuries.Munandar had taken two wins plus four additional rostrum finishes this season in the Asian Talent Cup and had been set to fight for the title this weekend at Sepang.Full statement from the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup:“Following an incident in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup race at Sepang International Circuit on Saturday, it is with great sadness that we report the passing of Afridza Munandar.“The incident occurred at Turn 10 on Lap 1, with the race Red Flagged immediately thereafter. The 20-year-old first received medical attention by the side of the track before being transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital by helicopter.“Despite the best efforts of circuit medical staff and those at the hospital, Munandar sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.“Munandar was a standout rider in the 2019 IATC season, taking two wins, two second places and two third-place finishes in a season that had seen him poised to fight for the Championship this weekend.“The FIM, FIM Asia, Dorna Sports, and all those in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup pass on our deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Munandar.” would like to also pass on its deepest sympathy to Afridza Munandar’s family and friends.Following a vote between the Asia Talent Cup riders, Race 2 will take place as planned on Sunday (3rd November) with every rider wanting to take part with the race held in the memory of Munandar. There will be a minute of silence to remember Munandar on the grid before Race 2 at 11:20 local time.”4
