Jenson Button and Naoki Yamamoto will reunite to defend their Super GT title with Team Kunimitsu Honda for 2019, as Honda Racing confirms its full racing programme for the new year.

Button secured his first title since winning the 2009 Formula 1 world championship when he teamed up with Yamamoto to claim last year’s Super GT title with Honda backing. The pair return to action in 2019 with an unchanged team aiming to retain their Super GT crown.

The British driver will dovetail his Super GT racing commitments with his new Sky Sports F1 pundit role in 2019.

Yamamoto, one of the standout drivers across the globe in 2018, will also defend his Super Formula title with Honda and the Docomo Team Dandelion Racing squad. Both defending champions will run the #1 plate.

In the full breakdown of Honda’s motorsport activities for 2019, including two wheels and four wheels, the Japanese manufacturer officially detailed its Formula 1 engine supply to Red Bull and Toro Rosso for 2019.

Honda will also give factory backing to 2017 Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato for the full 2019 IndyCar Series as he competes for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. The 41-year-old made the switch from Andretti Autosport last year, retaining his strong Honda links, and won the Grand Prix of Portland on his way to 12th in the drivers’ championship.
