Next up for Alex Rins is a trip to Portimao, ‘a circuit I really like’, after a strong points haul from the Qatar MotoGP double header. Rins came away from the two MotoGP races at Losail with a sixth and fourth place finish, as the season heads to Portugal for the first European round. While Rins did not manage to get a podium from either of the two races, the Spanish rider was in contention during both, once again showing the Suzuki’s strong all around package. Qatar has predominantly been a happy hunting ground for Yamaha and Ducati which held true to form, with Suzuki yet to clinch a MotoGP win at the Doha venue. However, with both Rins and team-mate Joan Mir showing race winning pace at times, it should be a glimpse into what we can expect heading back to Europe where they were so strong last season. While Rins was hoping for better than fourth and sixth, he remains satisfied saying: “I push all the preseason to get more points and to finish on the podium. Related ArticlesaccImages.createImage(); Brilliant Quartararo takes second win for Yamaha in QataraccImages.createImage(); Johann Zarco continues good form for Pramac, tops warm up session”But making a balance of the race, I think we go to Europe in a good position, fifth position and 23 points. “So let’s keep pushing. First race I made a mistake to not put the launch control and I paid for it all of the race, and the last part of the race. “This race I did it, and I got four positions in the first lap, so this is quite nice. So let’s continue pushing, let’s continue working with Suzuki, they are doing a good job. Related ArticlesaccImages.createImage(); Johann Zarco continues good form for Pramac, tops warm up sessionaccImages.createImage(); Stunning Jorge Martin takes maiden Pole Position in Doha”Let’s see if they bring this rear device that we need to get more speed on the straight. Let’s keep pushing.”Rins once again had to recover from a less than ideal qualifying of eighth place in Sunday’s race, but was soon challenging rookie pole sitter Jorge Martin for the race lead. And although Rins could not challenge eventual race winner Fabio Quartararo or the two Pramac Ducatis in the end, he did come out on top in the battle for fourth with Maverick Vinales on the final lap. “4Summing up his race, Rins said: “My race was quite good, I was able to do a nice job and I managed the tyres well. “At one point I realised I couldn’t make a break away at the front so I concentrated on conserving the tyres and watching how the competitors were riding. “It was a tough race and this is the best result I could get today, but I’m satisfied with fourth place, it’s my equal best finish at Qatar. “5”Now we’re focused on Portimão in a couple of weeks’ time; it’s a circuit I really like!.”It was a crazy race two all round, as the action was hectic from lap one until the end. But one of the scariest moments of the race was Rins losing the front at turn nine. The Suzuki rider produced a brilliant save in one of the circuit’s fastest corners without losing a position. Rins said: “It was super scary! The next two or three laps, I passed 2 meters away from that line. “6”It was one corner that I was able to do fast to recover the gap a little bit to the Ducati at the front. “And it was one moment that I pushed a lot with my body and I went on the white line and it was so scary inside the bike. I don’t know about the outside, but inside it was scary.””7
