Marcus Ericsson will miss this weekend’s IndyCar Grand Prix of Portland to carry out Formula 1 duties with Alfa Romeo at the Belgian Grand Prix. The Swede was named as Alfa Romeo’s third driver for the 2019 season having lost his full-time F1 race seat with the Swiss squad fielding an all-new line-up of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi.Reports surfaced on Thursday morning suggesting that Ericsson had pulled out of the latest IndyCar round in order to drive for Alfa Romeo at Spa this weekend in place of Antonio Giovinazzi, though the team quickly denied that Ericsson will be in the race seat.Ericsson himself then took to social media to clarify the situation, saying: “On request by Alfa Romeo I will be in Belgium, Spa this weekend together with the team.“It means I miss this weekends Indycar race at Portland. I wish SPM and Conor Daly the best for the weekend.”Ericsson, who has managed one podium finish so far in his rookie IndyCar campaign, has appeared in the F1 paddock at other races this year in the role.
