In today’s Formula 1 Gossip column, Chase Carey indicates potential new venues on the cards for 2021, marshal fears over British GP safety and Lewis Hamilton is enjoying elements of the coronavirus-enforced break. – Formula 1 chairman and CEO Chase Carey has suggested that two new races could be added to the calendar in 2021. Speaking in a Liberty Media investor call, Carey confirmed the sport’s bosses are having some “ongoing discussions with a couple of potential new races” for next year (RaceFans) – Marshals who help the British Grand Prix run smoothly are wary of the extra health and safety risks posed by F1 staging behind closed doors events, with fears a Silverstone round would be an “unnecessary burden” on the NHS (The Guardian) – Motor racing circuits in France will be able to welcome visitors again from today as French citizens cautiously begin to emerge from a strict eight-week lockdown period since March 17 [May 11] (FFSA) – Lewis Hamilton says he is “enjoying” some aspects of F1’s enforced break because it has given him time to refresh and revitalise himself, with the Briton saying he feels “fresher and healthier than ever” ahead of the 2020 season (BBC)- And Hamilton’s former Mercedes teammate, Nico Rosberg, believes the six-time world champion’s understanding of the rules of racing is a part of what makes him such a formidable opponent.
