COMMERCIAL VEHICLE TO CHANGE YOUR WORK PERSPECTIVE: THE NEW “DAILY”

Designed for long-haul transportation, the new IVECO S-WAY hauler and the IVECO WAY in heavy segment offers a complete focus on driver, sustainability and high-level personalized services. On the other hand, the new Daily light commercial vehicle, which will change your perspective on work, sets new standards in the driving experience, taking important steps in autonomous driving and safety issues.

IVECO Turkey officials, who introduced S-WAY and the new Daily to the sector with the slogan “No One Can Stop Us”, say they are ambitious that the vehicles will meet all the needs in the sector and are very confident in the vehicles.

‘No One Can Stop Us’

IVECO Turkey General Manager Hakkı Işınak said at the event: “Today we offer you a major change in our products in light, medium and heavy segments. The heavy-class IVECO WAY series replaces Stralis and Trakker. The IVECO WAY series is the truck of the next decade with state-of-the-art features. On the other hand, the light and medium-segment versions of our flagship model Daily have been renewed and highly personalized, tailored to customer use, developed with services that provide a holistic solution to meet transportation requirements. With this great change in our product range, we say, ‘No one Can Stop Us’.”

“Features Advanced Driver Assist Systems”

IVECO Turkey Marketing and Product Development Deputy General Manager Tansu Giz, speaking at the press conference, said, “The new IVECO WAY series is economically and environmentally sustainable for customers, so it symbolizes the services around the product evolving into an integrated transportation solution more than the product itself. The New Daily, on the other hand, features comprehensive Advanced Drive Assist systems that allow the driver to focus on an increasing amount of multitasking jobs and improve security. The new Daily sets new standards for life and driving experience in the cabin, while taking important steps in autonomous driving and improved safety features.”

INTRODUCING THE IVECO S-WAY AND DAILY!

At the launch introducing both IVECO S-WAY and the new Daily with all the details we attended as MyTruck Magazine, we had exclusive interviews with IVECO Turkey Marketing and Product Development Deputy General Manager Tansu Giz, Driving Instructor Mehmet Giz, Daily and Eurocargo Product Manager Süha Yılmaz.

TANSU GİZ: “NO ONE HAS SEEN OUR VEHICLE AND NOT BOUGHT IT”

IVECO Turkey Marketing and Product Development Deputy General Manager Tansu Giz, who said that the hauler cabin has completely changed at IVECO after 14 years, said, “We carried out fleet sales before launching IVECO S-WAY. This development solidified our confidence in the vehicle. So far, no one has seen our vehicle and not bought it.”

“15 S-WAYs Have Been Sold Today”

IVECO Turkey Marketing and Product Development Deputy General Manager Tansu Giz, said about The S-WAY, which they proudly introduced: “We met with our dealers, customers and members of the press for 3 days in Antalya. We are proud to introduce our heavy vehicle product family WAY series and our long-haul hauler, S-WAY. We did fleet sales before the launch of iVECO S-WAY. This development solidified our confidence in the vehicle. No one’s ever seen our car and not bought it. It was first launched here and we currently have sold 15 S-WAYs already. Beginning next week, shipments of vehicles will begin to our dealers.”

“12% Improvement Achieved in the Vehicle’s Friction Coefficient”

Giz stated that the hauler cabin at IVECO has changed completely after 14 years, said, “S-WAY is an entirely new product and replaces Stralis. Although the vehicle cabin was enlarged, a 12% improvement was achieved in the friction coefficient of the vehicle. This improvement reduces fuel consumption by about 4%. Speaking of how the design contributes to fuel consumption; air deflectors are located in the buffers. These air deflectors allow the air to be transferred more neatly from the front to the side, i.e. outside the door. So the doors are hold less dirt, and less friction occurs. You can already see that smooth lines are continuing on the front of the vehicle. S-WAY also bears the lines of the IVECO product family. We can see this again as a flat-bottomed ‘V’ on the front of the vehicle. ‘V’ lines are opening sideways similar to wings, which is one of the factors which reduces the friction coefficient. Night air conditioning was previously at the top of the vehicle. This had a negative effect on the friction coefficient. Right now, night air conditioning is also placed on the back of the front louver, inside the engine. This is one of the new features that contributes to the 12% decrease in the friction coefficient. As we saw, the new cabin is a much larger cabin and the interior height of the vehicle has been increased from 2.07 meters to 2.15 meters. Storage areas, cabinets, interior volume have grown further and the seats have improved for the comfort of drivers.”

“IVECO Never Had a Fuel Problem”

“We have never experienced any fuel problems in the engines we use as IVECO so far,” Giz said. IVECO’s never had a fuel problem. S-WAY’s infrastructure, transfer ringing is very successful. When we look at the spending items, the fuel is not a problem on its own. We always care about total cost of ownership. Factors such as connection characteristics of the vehicle, driver driving assessment feedback, driving without malfunction, vehicle quality, second-hand value contribute to Total Cost of Ownership. The maintenance intervals of our vehicle were increased from 75,000 km to 90,000 km. This gives the user a huge advantage.”

“You Can Connect to Your Vehicle from Anywhere in the World”

S-WAY also has an off-line Driving Style Assessment without requiring data transfer, Giz said, “After using the vehicle, the driver can get feedback and scoring on the screen by pressing a single key. This can also improve itself according to feedback and scoring. You can also connect to the vehicle remotely via the IVECO Myway app. You can connect to your vehicle from anywhere in the world and learn everything from the fuel state of your vehicle to battery charging at that moment. Again, you can connect remotely and turn off the lamp, radio, heating system.”

“The Door Extends to the Bottom Step”

Noting that The S-WAY was developed by taking note of driver comfort, Giz said: “There has been a change in the steps we used to drive. It’s been made bigger and deeper on the steps. One of its most important features is that each top step is further behind than the step below it. It prevents your knee from hitting when you climb, allowing you to see the next step when you descend. One of the highlights of the AS (large cabin) cabin is that the door extends to the bottom step. This allows the driver to stow his shoes.”

“Driver Seat Structure Completely Changed”

Giz added that one of the biggest improvements in the vehicle took place in the driver’s seat, and explained the characteristics inside the cabin with the following: “The structure of the driver’s seat has been completely changed. The seat base has been lowered. However, the movement of the up and down and forward and back has been increased. The same goes for the passenger seat. The hill window is 20% larger than the old vehicle and the insect screen is offered as standard. Another feature is the increased horizontal distance at the top of the vehicle increased from 44 cm to 78 cm. However, the interior volume of the top cabinets has been increased and there are 2 refrigerators. In addition, the bottom of the steering wheel has been flattened to make it easier for the driver to embark and disembark the vehicle. The StartStop button is center-consoled. The key, which was previously on the steering column, could disturb the driver’s leg.”

MEHMET ER: “SAFETY FIRST!”

IVECO Turkey Driving Instructor Mehmet Er, shared all the features of IVECO S-WAY developed for driver safety, said, “You can’t get between the cabin and the truck bed from the left side. If the driver wants to go to the trailer in case of any malfunction or control, he has to go to the right side. This detail is very important for the safety of the driver in order not to cause an accident on the side of the road.”

“Lane Tracking System, Day and Night Headlights and Rain Sensor Work Automatically”

IVECO Turkey Driving Instructor Mehmet Er, who said that many new features have been introduced in S-WAY because they want drivers to use their vehicles more efficiently and safely, said, “That’s why there are many innovations in our vehicle. Our lane tracking system, day and night headlights and rain sensor are running automatically. Our lane tracking system is audible and warns the driver by video on the screen. When it starts raining, the wipers start working automatically. When it gets dark, let’s say you forgot to turn on the headlights. The night lights turn on automatically. Again, with auditory and visual cues on the screen, it warns you in every way. When a vehicle appears unexpectedly, our AEBS radar comes in before us and, depending on the distance, it cuts the gas first, if necessary. If a very rapid reaction is necessary, it uses the engine brake and retarder. All of these features are standard in our vehicle.”

“Contains All Features Which Reduce Wind Resistance”

Stating that S-WAY boasts the safety norms of ECE R29.03, Er underlined that the cabin is steel, “Our cabin is 2.5 meters wide and contains all the features that reduce wind resistance. Outside the cabin, symmetrically located on the left and right sides, the cabinets allow drivers to stow their belongings comfortably with their depth and width.”

“Our Batteries Are Between Two Chassis”

Emphasizing the safety of the vehicle, Er said: “The cabin and dorse cannot be reached from the left side. If the driver wants to go to the trailer in case of any malfunction or control, he has to go to the right side. This detail is very important for the safety of the driver in order not to cause an accident on the side of the road. The S-WAY long-hauler, therefore uses dual storage for fuel. The two fuel tanks have a total volume of 1,120 liters, and the Adblue tank can be selected between 80 and 135 liters. Our batteries are located between two chassis. This is a safety measure against theft.  Batteries can be reached much more easily when it is on the back. Let’s say we’re having trouble with the battery or we’ve noticed the battery’s running out. We can reinforce the battery without removing the trailer.”

“We have an Automated Transmission, Speed Stabilization and ACC-Adapted Speed Stabilization System in our vehicle”

Fuel usage depends on many factors, Er said, “The driver’s weight of the load from the route where it operates or the use of fuel from the weather condition can vary depending on the way the vehicle is used. I’d say this car saves between 26 and 32% at 100 km. We have added extra driving assistance systems to our vehicle to reduce fuel consumption as much as possible.  We have an automated transmission, speed stabilization and ACC-adapted speed stabilization system in our vehicle, all of which provide extra safety to the driver, as well as a positive contribution to fuel use. It can also see driver errors with the instant driving evaluation system. We warn the driver by showing any instant errors or the truth from the screen. It evaluates and scores you on 0-100 scale. On top of that, it reports to us. Driver or fleet owners can choose the time interval of the report. You can also see information about the tachograph on our home screen. Daily or weekly, how long it is left to be used gives you information on the screen. Here, when the driver inserts the tachograph card, he knows the driver on the screen. For example, 2 drivers use the same vehicle in a company; weekly reports give us the performance of drivers. However, in our country, according to the law, no brand can use this feature at the moment.”

The IVECO S–WAY is seen as the IVECO Heavy Truck of the next decade with its new cabin and driver-oriented features all designed entirely for the needs of the driver and car owner over all previous generations.

IVECO DAILY HI-MATIC AWAITS BUYERS WITH ITS NEW FEATURES

IVECO EUROCARGO and DAILY Director Süha Yılmaz: “Our Goal is Safety”

IVECO DAILY HI-MATIC model vehicle IVECO EUROCARGO and DAILY Director Süha Yılmaz spoke to MyTruck Magazine regarding all the features at the launch in Antalya. We listened to the new generation of IVECO Daily from Yılmaz, which was redesigned to meet all the needs of light commercial transportation. Talking about what features the vehicle has for a newly developed and comfortable ride, Yılmaz said, “It is our customers’ choice both in terms of ergonomics and safety”, while saying “Oour goal is safety,” underlining its importance for the brand.

“A Vehicle Used mostly in Out-of-Town Services”

Introducing the IVECO Daily HI-MATIC model, Yılmaz said, “This vehicle is a 7-ton vehicle and those who complain about the scale will use our vehicle, i.e. a vehicle that is mostly used in extra-city services. After all, it has a 4 and a half-ton carrying capacity and therefore has a high capacity.   We have a HI-MATIC version with automatic transmission, an 8-speed transmission, which loads 4.5 tons.” Stating that the vehicle is usually used by companies that need to carry cargo, Yılmaz said, “For example, among our own customers is Telekom, paint companies and shipping companies engaged in logistics both domestically and abroad. Because it is a product with the latest technology and especially for those who transport parcels abroad.”

“We Are a Low Fuel Consumption Brand in the Market.”

Indicating that the vehicle is low fuel consumption is an important factor for brand users and IVECO Daily HI-MATIC, Yılmaz also touched on this feature, “Whether it is 7 tons of vehicle or 3 and a half tons of fuel each time is one of the most prominent elements. We are a low fuel consumption brand in the market. IVECO burns less. We don’t say that anymore. Normally a dealer can talk about our vehicle as a low fuel consumer, but we hear it from our customers.” At the same time, when talking about the values that affect fuel, Yılmaz said that the differential ratio is an important factor, “For example, one of the values that affects fuels is the AKS bond rate, i.e. the differential ratio. If you put a 3 differential in this vehicle, the car goes fast and burns less, but freight handling can also be a little more distressed. If you place heavier 5 differentials, the bond rate changes, the vehicle can do heavier tasks.”

Vehicle-Related Data Gathering with Remote Access

Yılmaz mentioned that the vehicles collect data through the smart system and guide the work of their engineers in this direction, “Our vehicles have been smart tools for a long time. So when you enter the vehicle’s interface, the data is collected with remote access. There is this data on which car worked on which mission, how much fuel burned. IVECO Italy regularly holds meetings with fleet customers and receives feedback from those customers. What are you happy with in our vehicle? What are you not happy about it? How much fuel do you burn? Such data is collected and evaluated by IVECO engineers.”

“Our Engines Are Also Designed with This Incoming Data”

Emphasizing that they are a brand which produces its own engine, Yılmaz said, “We also produce our own engine.  Our engines are being redesigned and improvements are being made with incoming data. In addition, IVECO Turkey evaluates with our customers from the field with data from our friends and services, sharing it with IVECO Italy and what we can do ourselves, how we can improve the vehicle according to its mission or what vehicle should we offer.”

“A Feature Not Present in Many Passenger Cars Today”

Yılmaz also mentioned the new addition features to the vehicle, “In the New Daily, we switched to City Mood, i.e. electric steering wheel. When you press electric in electric mode in our vehicle, the steering wheel is very light and it’s easier to use a steering wheel that eases. Likewise, we’re better than competitors in terms of turning wheels. Today, many passenger cars do not have this feature,” he said, adding, “There is crisis control, and in addition, our vehicle has adaptive crisis control. So there’s a car ready for autonomous driving. For example, there is a new difference LCD screen, we call TFT screen, the other had a more manual feature. Fuel and heat indicators are displayed electronically. When we press the menu, the ABS braking system, road assistance, systems like. In fact, the vehicle tells you how to use it.”

“The Nosed Structure Has a Great Benefit in Maneuverability”

Yılmaz also gave important details about the fact that the nose structure of the vehicles is an important factor in determining the maneuverability of drivers, “Our vehicle is nosed, some of our competitors are making flat. There’s a misperception that without a nose there is higher maneuverability. No, there’s no such thing. The vehicle’s maneuverability is completely provided by the vehicle’s rotational distance and steering angle, so this vehicle has maneuverability. When accidents unfortunately happen, we see that this nose structure has a great benefit,” he says, adding that ” We have completely disproven that maneuverability is higher in the vehicle without a nose and we already have the numbers. The maneuverability of this vehicle is important with its wheelbase and steering angle, so if the wheel can turn further for you, your maneuverability rises.”

“Very advanced techniques used in designing vehicles”

Stating that when designing, very advanced techniques are used in vehicles and it has certain criteria, Yılmaz said, “For example, the car friction coefficient is looked at. Even the slightest thing you see in the vehicle has a coefficient of friction, so it has a positive or negative effect, but of course you have to position it. There are regulations and laws. The height of the headlight should be like this, the car’s emissions should be like that – you take these into account and you design accordingly.”
