Jonas Folger will be Yamaha’s new European MotoGP test rider in 2019.
Movistar Yamaha’s Massimo Meregalli confirmed the long-rumoured deal to Dorna’s Simon Crafar during Friday practice at Misano.
Folger – second as a rookie in last year’s German MotoGP – quit Tech3 Yamaha at the start of this season, due to severe fatigue issues that had sidelined him since last September’s Aragon Grand Prix.
It remains to be seen if Folger will make any wild-card race appearances next year.
The Folger news follows official confirmation that Bradley Smith will become Aprilia’s new test rider, leaving only the new second KTM testing seat as ‘TBC’.
Dani Pedrosa is the most high profile name connected to the KTM vacancy, which is unlikely to be linked with any wild-cards.
