Jorge Lorenzo is eager to use the same setup and older chassis with his Repsol Honda to see if the gains taken from the Japanese MotoGP last time out repeat at this weekend’s Australian round at the iconic Phillip Island. The three-time MotoGP world champion missed last year’s Australian round through injury but having felt he produced his strongest showing since his comeback from his most recent injury, the fractured vertebrae sustained at Assen in June, Lorenzo is hopeful of maintaining that trend over the finale three rounds of the season. The Repsol Honda rider found confidence from his Friday practice pace at Motegi after re-testing an older chassis specification plus other parts with his RC213V and will try out the same setup to assess how his feeling carries over at Phillip Island.“I am looking forward to Phillip Island to see if what we discovered in Japan can also help us there as it is a very different kind of circuit,” Lorenzo said. “I was unable to race there last year so I am looking forward to riding again, it’s a special circuit and in the past I have good memories of fighting for podiums and the win I had.”Lorenzo, who has a mixed record at Phillip Island from winning in MotoGP back in 2013 to a nasty in 2011 which partially cut of the top of his fourth finger on his left hand and duly ended his season early, will have more conservative targets this weekend having missed out on the points places for the past three consecutive races.Since his injury the Spanish rider has picked up a total of just four points across five races, while his Repsol Honda team is aiming to seal a Triple Crown by securing the Teams’ title and has had to rely on Marc Marquez’s points haul over the second half of the season. The factory Honda squad currently trails Ducati by 17 points at the top of the standings. The 32-year-old is also wary of the poor weather forecast for Phillip Island this weekend with cold temperatures and intermittent rain predicted for both Saturday and Sunday.“We will have to pay attention to the weather because this can change the circumstances a lot,” he said.
