Jorge Lorenzo has withdrawn from the remainder of the Thai MotoGP weekend, following his huge Friday fall.

The Ducati star, already carrying foot injuries (dislocated big toe and fractured second metatarsal) from Aragon, was thrown into a vicious highside after a technical problem caused the engine to cut under braking for Turn 3.

Although no further fractures were announced on Friday, on Saturday it was revealed that Lorenzo did suffer ‘a hairline fracture to his left wrist’ in addition to abrasions to his right forearm and bruises to the right foot he had already injured in Spain.

Lorenzo waited to check his condition this morning before deciding not to continue – mainly due to the new left-wrist injury, which he fears could also cast doubt on Motegi in two weeks.

The triple MotoGP champion will now focus on trying to be fit for the following flyaway rounds in Japan, Australia and Malaysia.

Lorenzo was seventh fastest at the time of his fall, dropping to 16th place after missing the closing stages of FP2.

The Aragon accident, Lorenzo’s second DNF in a row, means he is now 44 points behind team-mate Andrea Dovizioso in the fight for second in the world championship. Dovizioso was fastest on Friday.
