Force India boss Vijay Mallya has moved to address the speculation surrounding the future ownership of his Formula 1 outfit, saying a quick-fire sale of the team is “unlikely”.

The future of the Silverstone-based outfit has been a prevalent topic in recent months, with rumours linking the team to offers from British energy drinks company Rich Energy and Andretti Autosport IndyCar team owner, Michael Andretti.

But Mallya, who was making his first appearance in an F1 paddock at Silverstone since last year’s British Grand Prix – as he continues to fight extradition to India – provided an update on the situation.

“People have been writing about the ownership of my team for years now,” Mallya said. “I’m proud that we finished our 200th Grand Prix in Austria. It’s a big milestone for me since I own this team. I am sure you will not see anybody in Force India, indeed myself, walk around with a for sale sign.

“As far as all these rumours are concerned, and all the statements that keep appearing in the media, all I can say is, if there is a credible offer with cash on the table, I will be the first one to discuss with my shareholders.

“I will see what they feel and, in the unlikely event we wish to sell the team, if there’s an offer that we cannot refuse, I will be the first one to announce it.

“Until then, speculation remains speculation.”

Mallya recently stepped down from his role as a director at Force India at the end of May amid accusations of financial irregularities.

Sergio Perez admitted in France that Force India’s ongoing financial issues have delayed a number of planned updates in 2018, as the team battles to defend the fourth place position it has held in the constructors’ championship for the past two years.
