Marc Marquez has spoken of his pride seeing younger brother Alex Marquez seal the Moto2 world title at Sepang and feels he deserves his own unique status after being criticised.Alex Marquez secured the 2019 Moto2 world championship thanks to second place in the Malaysia race giving him an unsurmountable 28-point lead over nearest rival Brad Binder with one round to go.Now a two-time world champion, having won the 2014 Moto3 world title, his older brother wants him to be rated on his own merits after being known as “the brother of” Marc Marquez for the majority of his career.“I am so proud of my brother because it is very difficult to be the brother of [Marc Marquez],” Marquez said. “The pressure that he gets, he started in Moto2 with a not so good feeling but the team believed in him and in the end he arrived but it is not easy to be the brother of.”Eight-time world champion Marquez advised his sibling to stay off social media before the race with the Moto2 title at stake in order to avoid negative comments.“Honestly speaking too, sometimes social media is good but sometimes it is hard. I said to him what I am doing, I said don’t check social media just keep pushing, keep going and believe in yourself,” he said.“You are the same man that won the Moto3 world championship and the same man who won four races in a row. Today he did a champion’s race. He is not the brother of, he is Alex Marquez.”The Repsol Honda rider also joked his part in the title celebrations at Sepang, less than an hour before his own race, flared up his injuries sustained in a heavy highside from qualifying. Marquez went on to finish runner-up in the Malaysian MotoGP.“I was much better before the celebration of my brother. In the celebrations with my brother I gave everything and forgot about my knees and especially my right hand,” he smiled.“My brother gives me that extra motivation. I said I needed to finish on the podium and in a good way because tonight will be a long night!”The Marquez brothers are already the most successful siblings in history with 10 world titles between them.”4
