Mercedes has sent one of its Formula 1 cars to the home of a terminally ill boy who “inspired” Lewis Hamilton’s victory at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Hamilton retook the lead of the world championship with his third win of the 2019 season in Barcelona and cited five-year-old Harry Shaw, who has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of terminal bone cancer, as his insipration after recieving a video message from Harry on the morning of the race.

The five-time world champion dedicated the 76th win of his career to his “spirit angel”, while his Mercedes team arranged for one its F1 show cars to be transported to Harry’s home in Surrey. The reigning world champion squad also sent the winning trophy from the race in Spain.

Harry was diagnosed with the disease in August last year at the age of four and he was given just a week to live on April 29.

Harry’s family have set up a Just Giving fundraising page to raise money for research into the rare condition. To date, it has raised more than £25,000 in donations.
