Joan Mir has been released from hospital and allowed to return home one week on from his heavy fall during the Brno MotoGP test which ruled him out of the Austrian round. The Suzuki rider ed late on during the post-Czech Republic MotoGP test last Monday and suffered bruising to his lungs having been transported by helicopter from the track’s medical centre to Brno Hospital. The MotoGP rookie spent three days in hospital before being flown to another hospital in Barcelona last Friday as he missed the Austrian round.Following medical tests run today, the 21-year-old has been released from hospital to recover at home under supervision before further checks back in hospital next week.It remains uncertain if the Spanish rider will be fit for the British round at Silverstone (August 23-25). Mir’s team-mate Alex Rins took on the Red Bull Ring race as the sole Suzuki rider last weekend and finished in sixth place.“Upon his arrival at the Dexeus University Hospital [in Barcelona], his treatment was supervised by Dr. Angel Charte’s medical team,” a Suzuki statement read. “Dr Charte is the MotoGP World Championship Doctor and Head of the Internal Medicine Unit at the Dexeus Hospital.“After extensive tests, including several CT scans, the group of doctors detected that the lung still had inflammation due to the large amount of bruising.“They therefore decided to keep him in and give him daily checks to expedite his recovery and avoid possible complications.“Four days later, the same medical team have decided, after a last round of tests that revealed an improvement, to let Joan go home – where he will continue to rest until another medical check next week at the same hospital.”After Mir undergoes next week’s medical tests in hospital it will become clearer if he will be fit enough to return to action at Silverstone or skip a second round to target a comeback at the San Marino MotoGP at Misano (September 13-15).
