Niki Tuuli will return to action in this weekend’s German Moto2 Grand Prix, despite having part of a finger amputated at the previous Assen round.

The Finnish rider’s hand became caught under his Kalex when he fell in qualifying, severely injuring his left finger, which later had to be partially amputated.

Tuuli – who joined the team at Le Mans – returned to Finland following his surgery and has been given the all-clear from his doctors to ride.

Nonetheless, Tuuli will still need to receive medical clearance from officials at the circuit on Thursday.

“I’m so happy that my finger has heeled so well, so quickly; I was really worried that I might not be able to ride in Germany,” Tuuli said. “Of course, I still have to get the official go-ahead from the track doctors but it’s looking promising. I’m really looking forward to getting back on track on Friday.

“I’ve been to Sachsenring once before in 2012, so I don’t remember so much about it. I just need to focus on my own riding this weekend and work on finding the right set-up on the bike so that I can be every lap faster; I want to be consistently improving.

“Being in the points is always my overall target but I guess this time I may have to be a little bit more patient and see how well I can ride with my hand and then go from there. Nevertheless, I feel ready to get back out there and get to work.”

Tuuli has a best finish of 17th in his three races since replacing Zulfahmi Khairuddin.
