Lando Norris was pleased to qualify fifth for the British Grand Prix after struggling in the early stages of Formula 1 qualifying at Silverstone.Check out the F1 YouTube channel – CLICK HERENorris will line up fifth, just ahead of Racing Point’s Lance Stroll and McLaren team-mate Carlos Sainz.Reflecting on his qualifying performance on home soil, Norris described it as “scrappy” but he was pleased to have delivered a lap when it mattered in the dying moments of Q3.“It was a bit of a scrappy qualifying,” Norris said. “I went off on my first lap in Q1. I lost the rhythm a little bit, which was a bit frustrating. I was always behind Carlos in Q1 and Q2, always trying to catch up and get into a good rhythm. I only really did that in Q3, luckily.“We were on the edge in Q1 and Q2, so a little bit nervous, but in Q3 I managed to put it together and put on I don’t know if it was my best lap ever, but one of my best laps, which I’m very happy to do especially here in my home race. Big thanks to the team but tomorrow is the important thing.”Norris is hopeful he will be able to stick with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc given that the McLaren driver will be forced to start on the soft, while Leclerc is set to start on the more durable medium tyres – which looks to be the better race tyre.“If you are starting on the medium you know you can go a few more laps and push the tires a little bit more than the people on the softs.“I don’t think anybody ahead we are really racing against, maybe the Ferrari, but the Red Bull and Mercedes are just going to drive away. Especially the Mercedes. We have to be careful with whom we think we will be racing against, and don’t compromise our race on that. We will do the best we can with our strategy on the softs.”
