After completing the first part of a potentially-perfect race weekend at Assen with pole position, Fabio Quartararo concedes the second part could be decided on an all-important tyre pick with his Petronas Yamaha for the Dutch MotoGP.The standout rookie of 2019 has secured his third pole position of the season, keeping his record as the only other rider to take pole aside Marc Marquez and Maverick Vinales this year, as he eyes a possible maiden MotoGP victory after demonstrating supreme race pace during practice.Having set a new outright lap record at Assen on his way to pole position with a 1m 32.017s, Quartararo is now weighing up his rear tyre option for the Dutch race.In FP4 Quartararo, who topped the session, ran both a used medium and a new hard in the rear of his Petronas Yamaha and concedes he’s still undecided on which option to pick for the race.“I think the temperature for tomorrow will be more or less the same and we are quite good with both tyres so tomorrow morning we need to decide which one we will use,” Quartararo said. “The front is quite clear but the rear is still difficult working with the full fuel tank. Let’s see tomorrow morning if the conditions are good to try that out.“I think all the race will be difficult but I think to manage the tyres with the heat tomorrow is key. It is a long race, 26 laps, and I think there will be racing in groups so for overtakes I think we’ll need to push on the tyres. I think the last part of the race will be quite difficult.”Quartararo also feels he could have gone even quicker during qualifying were it not for a small mistake in the final sector during his final lap, which was one-tenth of a second slower than his pole position lap, having lost over two-tenths in the last sector battling the wind at Assen.“I made a mistake in the last sector, while my third sector in the first lap was really good, so a small mistake in the last sector, I went really wide in corner 15, and I didn’t manage to stop the bike that well in the chicane,” he said. “I lost one-tenth or one-and-a-half-tenths so we need to look.“Anyway I am really happy with these two laps because they were on the limit but we managed them well.”Quartararo, who claimed his second pole position last time out in Barcelona, took his maiden rostrum in the race with second place behind Marquez following the multi-rider collision triggered by Jorge Lorenzo that took out Andrea Dovizioso, Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi.
