Fabio Quartararo feels he has key advantages at the Thailand MotoGP that will benefit his charge for Petronas Yamaha as he looks to build momentum into the Asian flyaway rounds to complete his standout rookie campaign in the premier class. The French rider had to settle for fifth place last time out at Aragon, a circuit which traditionally has not suited the Yamaha package, and despite this weekend being just the second running of the Thailand round the Chang International Circuit track characteristics’ are believed to partly play to the YZR-M1’s strengths through the low and mid-speed corners – while the long straights allow the likes of Honda and Ducati to strike back.Quartararo hopes he can use this along with the relative inexperience of all the MotoGP riders at the Buriram track, with just one test and one race held before this year’s event, to take on his rivals as he looks to defend his top Independent rider status against Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller.“I think it’ll be a little better for us than Aragon was because there’s a lot of long, slow corners that will suit our bike,” Quartararo said. “The more-experienced riders have less of an advantage there as it’s only the second time racing there, so we’ll work hard to adapt quickly and do our best.“This is my favourite time of the year, heading into the four races in Asia and Australia, because I love travelling and I’ll have a chance to rest after Thailand too.”Quartararo has a six-point advantage over Miller in the Independents’ battle, while the MotoGP rookie is seventh in the overall standings and 15 points behind Valentino Rossi in sixth place with five rounds to go.
