Renault will introduce its latest Formula 1 engine at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, meaning both Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg will receive grid penalties. The French manufacturer says the new upgrade will result in “minor upgrades to reliability and performance”, with both drivers taking on the new spec ICE (internal combustion engine). As a result, Ricciardo and Hulkenberg will receive five-place grid penalties for Sunday’s race, providing no further elements are changed.Teams often split their power unit upgrades between their cars over two races, but Renault is keen to reap the benefits from the change as early as possible amid its battle to regain supremacy in the midfield fight.Renault currently occupies sixth place in the constructors’ championship and is over 40 points adrift of leaders McLaren, having not registered a point since July’s British Grand Prix.
