Daniel Ricciardo has moved to clarify his post-race comments following his frustrating Mexican Grand Prix which saw retire with a mechanical issue having started on pole position.

The Australian driver endured his sixth mechanical DNF of the year in Mexico which came back-to-back with his retirement from the United States race while also having technical issues prematurely cut short his qualifying at Circuit of the Americas.

Venting his frustration at his situation during the post-race media session, Ricciardo remarked he may not race at the final two rounds with Red Bull and ‘let Gasly drive it’ – with the French driver replacing the Renault-bound Australian for 2019.

Despite the comments being made in the heat of the moment, Ricciardo has taken to his Instagram account to confirm he will contest the final two races of 2018 with Red Bull in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

“I want to address a few things from Mexico,” Ricciardo said. “First one first I will be doing the last two races as it is what I am about and I am not about that other life.

“It has been obviously massive highs and lows this year, more lows unfortunately and it has been frustrating I won’t lie.

“But I look to myself and all the guys that work their butts off to give it two more cracks before we see each other off so I will be there. I just needed a few days off but it feels good.”

Since claiming pole position and victory in Monaco, while battling mechanical issues during the race, Ricciardo has failed to reach the podium across the past 13 races while in that run he has been unable to finish six races all due to breakdowns.
