Renault has confirmed Daniel Ricciardo will move on to its ‘Spec B’ engine for this weekend’s French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, ahead of the team’s planned schedule.Renault has brought its first major update package of the season for its R.S.19 car, which will run with narrower bodywork, nose cape and floor than at previous races. The team confirmed ahead of opening practice on Friday at Paul Ricard that Ricciardo’s car would also be fitted with a new engine, offering a boost in performance. However, teammate Nico Hulkenberg will not use the new engine, as he would trigger a grid penalty by doing so after already hitting the season limit.“We will introduce a new Spec B ICE this weekend on Daniel’s car. This ICE represents a good step forward on performance,” Renault F1 chief Cyril Abiteboul confirmed.“Nico will take his new engine at a different race, but as he will incur a penalty for exceeding the three ICEs permitted per year, we don’t want it to be in France, our home race.“The ICE was scheduled for use at a later race, but we are ahead of schedule, so are pleased to be able to use it here.”
