Ferrari’nin arka arkaya dördüncü pole pozisyonunu kazandığı Rusya GP’de Charles Leclerc startta Sebastian Vettel’e geçildi. Alman yarışçı pit stopların ardından güç ünitesi sorunuyla yolda kaldı ve Sanal Güvenlik Aracı’na sebep oldu. Charles Leclerc’in aksine o noktaya kadar pit stop yapmayan Lewis Hamilton, bu periyottan faydalanarak pite girdi ve yarışa Leclerc’in önünde ilk sırada döndü. George Russell’ın fren arızası yaşayıp kaza yapması nedeniyle piste giren Güvenlik Aracı periyodundan sonra da yerini koruyan İngiliz pilot, damalı bayrağı ilk sırada görerek Macaristan GP’den sonraki ilk zaferini kazandı. Bu sonuçla Mercedes, Britanya GP’den sonra ilk kez duble yapmış oldu. Yarışa pole pozisyonundan başlayan Charles Leclerc için karmaşık bir yarış oldu. Monakolu pilot, ilk virajda Vettel’in gerisine düştü ve ön grupta pite ilk giren isimdi. Vettel’in yolda kalmasının ardından piste giren Sanal Güvenlik Aracı’yla Hamilton’ın gerisine düşen Leclerc, Russell’ın kazası sonrası bir kez daha pite girdi ve Bottas’ın gerisine düştü. Sıralama turlarında kaza yapan ve yarışa pit yolundan başlayan Red Bull pilotu Alex Albon, harika bir yükseliş gerçekleştirdi ve yarışı takım arkadaşı Verstappen’in gerisinde beşinci sırada tamamladı. Orta grupta oldukça heyecanlı bir mücadele vardı. Yarışın henüz ilk bölümünde dördüncülüğe yükselen Carlos Sainz, damalı bayrağı altıncı sırada görerek hem orta grubu lider tamamladı hem de McLaren’a değerli puanlar getirdi. Ancak pit stoptan Leclerc’in gerisinde çıktı ve saniyeler sonra da MGU-K sorunuyla aracını kenara çekti. Böylelikle Alman pilot, 2018 Almanya GP’den sonra ilk kez finiş göremedi. Rusya GP’nin ardından Lewis Hamilton puanını 322’ye çıkardı ve en yakın rakibi Valtteri Bottas’ın 73 puan önünde yer alıyor. Üçüncü sıradaki Charles Leclerc’le arasında ise 107 puan bulunuyor.
