The FIA has added a third DRS zone at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as it looks to promote further overtaking opportunities at the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.

For this year’s race in Montreal, an extra DRS zone will be included on the straight between the Turn 6/7 and Turn 8/9 chicanes. The Canadian Grand Prix venue already features two DRS zones down the start-finish straight, as well as the long back straight that leads into the final chicane.

F1 has been pushing to boost overtaking during races since the start of 2018, with the Melbourne circuit which hosted the season-opener becoming the first circuit to receive a third DRS zone this year.

The FIA also extended the main DRS zone in Barcelona ahead of May’s Spanish Grand Prix, with F1 race director Charlie Whiting stating the FIA would not hold back on making changes in a bid to improve the show.
