Full San Marino MotoGP qualifying results at MisanoMaverick Vinales has taken his first pole position since the 2019 opening round in Qatar by beating surprise package Pol Espargaro on the Red Bull KTM, while Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi come close to trading blows during their final flying laps.In a dramatic last 60 seconds of qualifying, provisional pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo was displaced by Espargaro who had been gaining a tow from the French rider to produce a 1m 32.560s.But Vinales wrecked the dream maiden pole position for Espargaro and KTM with a 1m 32.265s to steal the top spot for Monster Yamaha. The action continued away from the fight for pole position with Marquez and Rossi reigniting a former rivalry. Marquez began his final lap following Rossi on track with the pair trading overtakes during the lap which effectively wrecked both their laps. The result left Marquez restrained to fifth place for Repsol Honda, while home hero Rossi was pushed back to the front of the third row in seventh place. It saw Quartararo complete the front row ahead of Petronas Yamaha team-mate Franco Morbidelli in fourth place with Marquez one place ahead of MotoGP title rival Andrea Dovizioso who put his Ducati in sixth place. With Rossi in seventh, Red Bull KTM’s Johann Zarco surged through Q1 to take eighth place in the final session ahead of Silverstone race-winner Alex Rins who narrowly edged out Suzuki team-mate Joan Mir.Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda) and Ducati wildcard Michele Pirro completed the Q2 runners in 11th and 12th respectively. With Zarco and Mir progressing into Q2, Francesco Bagnaia was the unlucky 13th-placed rider to just miss out in Q1 by 0.003s for Pramac Ducati.Cal Crutchlow put in a stellar final lap but could only reach 14th overall for LCR Honda struggling for grip with his RC213V, while Aleix Espargaro led the Aprilia charge to 15th place for the Noale-based factory team’s home race.Jack Miller and Danilo Petrucci both suffered on their respective Ducatis down in 16th and 17th, their worst qualifying performances of the year, with Repsol Honda’s Jorge Lorenzo slotting into a disappointing 18th place as he continues to search for speed.”4Miguel Oliveira battled through the pain to take 19th on the grid directly ahead of Tech3 KTM team-mate Hafizh Syahrin, with Avintia Ducati duo Karel Abraham in 21st and Tito Rabat in 22nd.Andrea Iannone did not take part in qualifying for Aprilia after being taken to the medical centre with a suspected shoulder injury having suffered his third of the weekend in FP4.
