Maverick Vinales is hoping the new Silverstone asphalt will provide a further boost to his chances at a track where he is already a proven MotoGP winner.Vinales took his first premier-class victory, and first for the Suzuki GSX-RR, at Silverstone in 2016.The Spaniard then finished runner-up by just 0.114s for Yamaha the following year, before the 2018 race was cancelled due to drainage problems.To fix those issues, the track has been completely resurfaced ahead of this weekend’s British event. The new asphalt should also mean high grip levels, which would play into the M1’s hands.”In Silverstone I got my first victory in MotoGP, so I have good memories there,” Vinales said.”I think it’s a track that can be very favourable to our bike, and we can be competitive also because of the new asphalt. We are expecting better grip and that is definitely something that will work to our advantage.”We are also hoping to have good weather for this weekend. Our goal remains the same: to be the first Yamaha always in the final classification.”Vinales, Yamaha’s only race winner so far this season, is currently sixth and one-point behind Valentino Rossi in the world championship standings.
