Monster Yamaha riders Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi began the second of the Misano MotoGP weekends with 13th and 17th places, respectively, having opted against new tyres at the end of Free Practice 1.Check out the MotoGP YouTube channel – CLICK HEREAfter seeing pole position turn to misery last Sunday, Vinales unsurprisingly focussed his attention on race preparation this morning, keeping the same set of soft front and hard rears for the entire session.”In FP1 we tried to work a lot to prepare for Sunday’s race,” said Vinales, also seen trying the new Yamaha exhaust. “Our main mission is to improve the race setting, so we focused mostly on that and not so much on our one-lap speed. I’m quite happy. Our rhythm was good.”Now we will try to make another step in FP2 for the race, especially because the conditions will be hotter then. We know we have the speed and for sure can do a good lap, but our goal is being fast in the race.”Vinales was the only rider to select the hard rear tyre last Sunday, which many – including Rossi – felt had been a factor in explaining the Spaniard’s early lack of grip. However, Rossi, like many others, gave the hard tyre a try this morning, when he used the same set of medium front and hard rear throughout.Despite his lowly position the Italian was only 1.111s off the new-tyre time attack of fastest man Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha) but feels everybody has stepped up the pace already this weekend.”We have to work, because everybody is very strong. It looks like everyone is faster than they were last week, so we need to work on improving our pace. This morning we worked on the setting, and we tried some different tyres. We will see what will happen this afternoon,” said Rossi. As well as the exhaust, the Yamaha riders are thought to have a new carbon fibre swingarm to try this weekend, following an initial evaluation at the Tuesday test.
