Triple 500cc world champion and MotoAmerica president Wayne Rainey will not only attend this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, but ride!The American, 61, paralysed from the chest down since an accident in 1993, will take to the Goodwood Hill on his 1992-championship-winning Yamaha YZR500 during the June 23-26 event.Rainey’s ride will be made possible after Yamaha Motor Company reconfigured the YZR500 so it can be ridden using handlebar controls alone.“I’m incredibly excited to not only be attending my first Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer, but to be riding my 1992 Yamaha YZR500 up the famous hillclimb,” said Rainey, who made his first return to riding in 2019 with a modified R1 Superbike at the Sound of Engine Festival in Japan.Related Livio Suppo named as new Suzuki MotoGP team manager Portimao Moto2 Test Results – Monday, Day 3 (Session 3)”It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and one that I just couldn’t pass up.
