F1 announces Japanese Grand Prix contract extension until 2024

Formula 1 has announced the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka will remain on the calendar for a further three years after a new deal has been agreed. The deal agreed between race promoter Mobilityland and F1 means the Japanese GP will remain on the calendar until the 2024 season.The race has been a mainstay on the calendar since 1987, often the scene of many iconic title finales over the years.The 2020 Japanese GP was cancelled as a result of the coronavirus, while F1 is expected to return in October despite growing concerns ahead of the Olympics, which are set to take place in Tokyo in the summer.Japanese manufacturer Honda is bowing out of the sport at the end of the season but Japan sees representation in terms of a driver for the first time since 2014 in the form of AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda.Speaking of the announcement, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said: “I am truly delighted that Formula 1 will continue to race at Suzuka Circuit for another three years. Related ArticlesaccImages.createImage(); Inspired by Masters win, it’s Tsunoda’s turn for Japan’s F1 milestone momentaccImages.createImage(); Red Bull poaches Mercedes man to head up new F1 engine division“Japan holds a special place in the hearts and minds of F1 fans all over the world, and Suzuka has played host to many of the sport’s most legendary moments, with 11 Drivers’ titles being decided there. “The Japanese Grand Prix has always showcased gripping, edge-of-your-seat drama, and I am thrilled we can continue to bring the action and excitement that is Formula 1 to the passionate motorsport fans of Japan.“This extension is part of our long-term commitment to growing the sport in Asia, and we are pleased to be able to continue our successful relationship with Mobilityland.
