Gasly beat Hamilton to sixth-place last time out in Monte Carlo, having started ahead of the seven-time champion.Mercedes’ undercut attempt on Gasly proved to be unsuccessful in the principality, with AlphaTauri responding a lap later and ensuring he came out ahead of Hamilton.Reflecting on the events of Monaco, Gasly said: “I was really happy after Monaco because we know it’s a pretty challenging track both for drivers for the car and it was a good preparation faultless weekend from all of us and we managed to score some big points so was great.“I mean Lewis was in the mirror for … I felt sorry for him he was just stuck behind for 78 laps. But you know, there was basically no opportunity and I was surprised when I saw them boxing before us. It was not the right thing to do.“But yeah, in the end, it’s better for us. We managed to score some more points and I think was a strong result for the team.”Looking ahead to this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Gasly is hopeful the team can replicate the pace it showed in 2019 – under the Toro Rosso name – when Daniil Kvyat qualified sixth.Related ArticlesaccImages.createImage(); Bottas “surprised” Wolff suggested he was out of position in botched pit stopaccImages.createImage(); Ricciardo ‘took a step back’ to understand struggles with McLaren F1 car“It’s been a good track for the team, Gasly added. “Daniil was very fast last time out here. We’ll see it’s a straight track, it’s again, very particular quite unique, the way you set up the car. There are a couple of changes, especially with the castle part without the kerb there.“So it’s going to be slightly different. But I’ve learned to not have any expectations in f1. Because sometimes you think you’re going to be fast and then it ends up being a challenging weekend, sometimes you think it’s gonna be a hard one and then it’s really good. So yeah, we’ll just get on track and see how it works.”
