Full Australian MotoGP FP1 results at Phillip IslandMaverick Vinales has topped a wet opening practice at Phillip Island from local favourite Jack Miller ahead of the Australian MotoGP, while Fabio Quartararo suffers a painful high-side late on.The Monster Yamaha rider chipped away at his best lap time to move to the top of the times with a 1m 38.957s as the wet weather circled the iconic Australian circuit, which ended up being the fastest lap of the session as rain returned late on.That saw Miller stuck in second place for Pramac Ducati but ahead of 2019 MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez on the Repsol Honda despite his personal improvement to reach third place in FP1.Valentino Rossi found some confidence-boosting pace in the wet to take fourth place for Yamaha in front of Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci and Petronas Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli. But it was a nightmare end to the morning session for Morbidelli’s team-mate Quartararo as he was thrown into a nasty high-side at the Siberia corner with three minutes to go. The MotoGP rookie of the year has been taken to the circuit medical centre for a check-up and was seen holding his left ankle while being stretchered off the track.Pol Espargaro impressed for Red Bull KTM in eighth place directly ahead of Tech3 KTM’s Miguel Oliveira as Andrea Dovizioso completed the top 10 on the Ducati.Karel Abraham was another rider to profit in the tricky conditions to take 11th place for Avintia Ducati to push Suzuki’s Alex Rins into 12th place.Johann Zarco also caught the eye on his LCR Honda debut by ending FP1 in 13th place just 2.095s off the pace of the leading effort from Vinales. The French rider is standing in for Takaaki Nakagami for the rest of the season as the Japanese rider undergoes surgery on a right shoulder injury.Cal Crutchlow was shuffled into 14th place by his new temporary LCR Honda team-mate but he stayed in front of Suzuki’s Joan Mir and Pramac Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia. With Hafizh Syahrin surging up to 17th place for Tech3 KTM, Jorge Lorenzo made a tentative start to his Australian race weekend for Repsol Honda in 18th place but ahead of Mika Kallio (Red Bull KTM), Tito Rabat (Avintia Ducati) and Andrea Iannone while his Aprilia team-mate Aleix Espargaro didn’t complete a lap in FP1.”4
