Following’s Sunday’s Catalunya MotoGP, riders and teams returned to the Barcelona circuit for a day of Official testing.
Monster Yamaha’s world championship leader Quartararo, demoted from third to sixth due to a pair of post-race penalties, was on top of the timesheets when he halted testing with an hour and a half to go, with his best time was later beaten by team-mate Vinales.
LCR Honda’s Nakagami was a strong third ahead of Suzuki’s reigning world champion Mir, who set the pace for much of the day.
Although there were two additional factory KTM test bikes listed, only race winner Oliveira and team-mate Binder were riding today (Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio were not testing).
At Suzuki both Mir and test rider Guintoli were testing some set-up configurations and electronics, but did not have any new ‘hardware’ items.
Aleix Espargaro, who has been struggling with fluid in his arm after recent surgery, wasn’t present after heading for checks in Barcelona, which concluded that the arm won’t need any further treatment, just rest and some antibiotics. Espargaro was replaced by Aprilia test rider Matteo Baiocco.
Round 8 of the world championship, the German MotoGP at Sachsenring, takes place on June 18-20…
