Although the FIA failed to make any proposals during a crunch meeting of the F1 Commission on Monday, a statement from the FIA said “structural changes” and an “action plan” would be announced later this week. Michael Masi’s future as FIA race director has been called into question after he failed to implement the rules correctly during a late Safety Car period and subsequently altered the outcome of the world championship. Masi forced a one-lap shoot-out that gave Max Verstappen the chance to overtake long-time race leader Lewis Hamilton and clinch his maiden world title in a hugely dramatic and contentious conclusion to the season. I am elected to do that but also have fair motorsport, as that’s my duty. “So it was a very good meeting. We went through a lot of important things for the season, so I expect a good F1 season. “We can only go forward. This is important for the FIA, for the integrity of the FIA and for the sport. Ben Sulayem also claimed that F1 rivals Mercedes and Red Bull were in “harmony” during the high-level meeting. “They were in line,” he said. “I think it’s because of Valentine’s Day.”They were close to each other and they were in a good mood, so that was good.
