F1 British GP red-flagged after serious Zhou crash

 

 

 
Zhou was caught up in a multi-car collision involving Mercedes’ George Russell and Pierre Gasly’s AlphaTauri and ended up flipping upside down before hitting the barriers at Abbey. The incident occured after Gasly’s car became pincered inbetween Zhou and Russell, which in turn sent Russell into the side of Zhou who went straight on at Turn 1 at high-speed. Russell was seen running over to the scene of the accident to try and help Zhou, whose car ended up barrel rolling over the tyre barriers and into the catch fencing.  Sky reported that Zhou was extracted from his car on a stretcher but was moving and ok, while Alfa Romeo team boss Frederic Vasseur has told Sky that Zhou remained conscious throughout. An FIA statement said: “The FIA advises that following the incident at the start of the race, emergency crews were immediately in attendance, and the drivers of Car 23 (Albon) and Car 24 (Zhou) have been taken to the medical centre. Both drivers were conscious and will be evaluated at the medical centre.
