The FIM Junior Moto3 World Championship, through which 80% of current grand prix riders have passed, is being rebranded as the ‘FIM JuniorGP World Championship’ for 2022.Entering its 25th year, the Spanish-based class was formerly known as CEV Moto3, then received FIM status and later became the Junior Moto3 World Championship from 2015.As in the case of grand prix weekends being named after the most prestigious ‘MotoGP’ class, the new ‘JuniorGP’ name will also apply to CEV events as a whole, which include the European Talent Cup, Moto2 European Championship and Superstock.Among those to have passed through the CEV/Junior World Championship are eight-time world champion Marc Marquez, 2020 MotoGP champion Joan Mir and 2021 MotoGP champion Fabio Quartararo.Related Razali: Rossi, Dovizioso ‘totally different comparison’ Surgery for MotoGP rookie Remy Gardner after Motocross accidentThe full list of champions since the switch from 125cc to Moto3 machinery in 2012 is as follows:Alex Marquez (2012), Quartararo (2013, 2014), Nicolo Bulega (2015), Lorenzo Dalla Porta (2016), Dennis Foggia (2017), Raul Fernandez (2018), Jeremy Alcoba (2019), Izan Guevara (2020) and Daniel Holgado (2021).Related Ducati latest MotoGP team to announce 2022 launch date ‘More Ducatis, more problems’ – MotoGP rivals wary of 8 DesmosedicisFrom 2015, the winner of the CEV/Junior Moto3 World Championship has been given a special exemption to enter the Moto3 Grand Prix class from the age of 15 rather than 16.That perk, which also exists for the Red Bull Rookies Cup winner, will continue after 2023 when the grand prix age limit is being raised to 18, with the JuniorGP/Rookies Cup winner being allowed to join at 17.
