Following Sunday’s Spanish MotoGP, teams and riders remained at Jerez for a day of official post-race testing.

Pol Espargaro and Sunday’s runner-up Fabio Quartararo set the early pace, before Pramac Ducati’s Johann Zarco (who ed out of the race) took over at the top just before lunchtime, where he would remain.

  • Remy Gardner: I should have ripped the other wing off as well!
  • Marc Marquez: I was on the floor, the Spanish crowd saved me!
  • Quartararo: Front tyre felt like chewing gum, Bagnaia pushed me to the limit

KTM’s Brad Binder (who struggled with rear-wheel vibrations in the race) climbed to second, pushing reigning champion Fabio Quartararo to third.

Quartararo, who rode for 78 laps, tried a different swingarm and front fender for his factory Yamaha, but had ‘nothing special’.

Over at Honda, Marc Marquez ran through some different aerodynamic options to try and improve front-end feeling on the new RCV, saying ‘our weak point is still there’ after his 60 laps.

LCR’s Takaaki Nakagami halted testing after an early fall and is heading for MRI scans on the ligaments in his left knee. Although walking in the paddock afterwards, Nakagami is said to have boarded the flight to Barcelona in a wheelchair.

“Unfortunately, Taka ed at Turn 1 this morning,” said team boss Lucio Cecchinello. “Thankfully, on the X-ray performed at the circuit medical centre it was clear there are no fractures. Taka is still feeling some pain in his left knee however, so we decided to fly him back to Barcelona immediately where he will undergo an MRI scan as soon as he lands.

“We should find out the results in the next couple of days, but we are hopeful about them being good, because after some initial pain, he was able to walk out of the circuit himself.  So, we are positive he’ll be recovered and ready for the next round of the championship in France.”

While Repsol Honda’s Pol Espargaro (fifth fastest) completed the most laps at 85, Sunday’s winner Francesco Bagnaia – still nursing a sore shoulder from the Portimao accident – only rode for 24 laps, finishing twelfth on his factory Ducati.

Remy Gardner had a big fall in the afternoon, hurting his finger and back. Tech3 KTM team-mate and fellow rookie Raul Fernandez, unfit for the race weekend due to the hand injury in Portimao, was also absent from the test, which took place from 10am-6pm.

A late red flag period was caused by a technical issue for Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori.

Round 7 of the world championship will be held at Le Mans, France from May 13-15.
