Nothing less than challenging for the Moto2 World Championship will suffice according to Sam Lowes, who admits better consistency is needed in 2022. Lowes started last season in brilliant fashion by winning the opening two races at Losail, the scene of next weekend’s opening round, however, three DNF’s over the following four races burst a significantly large bubble in his aim of winning the 2021 title. In fact, Lowes had just one win (Emilia-Romagna) throughout the remainder of the season as Red Bull KTM Ajo riders Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez went on to dominate the campaign.  While Lowes matched his win total of the 2020 season (3), it’s a year that promised so much for the British rider who eventually finished P4.Related Tony Arbolino ‘optimistic’ of being competitive in Qatar Redding: Change from V4 to inline-four engine ‘a big deal for me’With the current Moto2 world champion Gardner and Fernandez both stepping up to MotoGP with Tech 3 KTM, Lowes has arguably one of his better chances of winning the intermediate class title, but as this week’s Portimao test proved, injuries could once again play a factor. Lowes missed the final day of testing due to tendinitis in his left wrist, which will without doubt result in a less than 100% fully fit Lowes come the Qatar race in ten days time.Related Vierge: Race pace much better, I was able to get my confidence back Foggia, Suzuki dominate three day Portimao test, early season favourites? But with that said, Lowes remains adamant that challenging for the Moto2 title is once again his only aim, while ‘I need to be more consistent’ in order to do so. Speaking about the new season, Lowes added: “I’m really happy to be back for another season with this fantastic team. I feel great with my crew and I’ve felt at home here since day one. “The target last year was to fight for the World Championship and some things didn’t go our way. “4”We gained a lot of experience and understand where we can be stronger in 2022. I need to be more consistent over the whole season because last year we started off strongly but lost some momentum before I came back strong at the end. “Putting my best form together for a longer period is something I’m definitely concentrating on. My goal once again is to fight for the World Championship and when you ride for the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team that has to be something you strive for. “It hasn’t been an easy pre-season with some issues with my left wrist but I believe in my potential and that of the team and remain confident we can have a very successful season together. It’s 2022, so let’s hope it’s the year of number 22!””5
