Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez is recovering favourably from his most recent eye injury according to his Repsol Honda team. Marquez was diagnosed with an episode of diplopia – also known as double-vision – following a training accident ahead of last month’s Algarve Grand Prix. The injury, which is a repeat of the eye problem he suffered in 2011, brought to an end a two-race winning streak for the eight-time world champion. The back-to-back wins in Austin and Misano were his second and third of the season, which was good enough to put him third highest in wins – only 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia had more. This is despite Marquez missing a total of four races.Related MotoGP podcast: 2021 season review – Honda Rea: Would have been nice to measure my level in MotoGP, I feel the door is shutWhile Marquez will continue with a ‘conservative treatment plan’ over the coming weeks, the 28 year-old remains able to train without physical limitation ahead of the new season.A statement from Repsol Honda said: “The Repsol Honda Team rider, who last October was diagnosed with an episode of diplopia after suffering a fall while training for the Portuguese GP, has continued periodic visits to his trusted ophthalmologist to assess the evolution of his vision over the past two months.
