Marc Marquez feels his 2019 MotoGP season could match his dominant 2014 campaign in terms of achievements as he feels the competition level his much higher this year. The Repsol Honda rider is on the edge of clinching his eighth world title, needing to outscore Andrea Dovizioso by just two points at the Thailand round this weekend, fresh from consecutive wins in Misano and Aragon.Despite dominating to victory in all opening 10 races in 2014 before taking 13 wins overall on his way to the title, Marquez feels his achievements this year could equal or even surpass that season.“On the numbers maybe 2014 was even better, but for consistency and especially how the category is now with the equal level between teams and bikes and riders,” Marquez said. “This is important to be fast during all weekends.“At the moment our goals are there and what we did is what we planned and that is to attack at the circuits where I feel strong and defend well in the circuits where I have been struggling.“We will have the first match point here and we will try to achieve but if not one of my targets is to also finish on the podium at all the races from now until the end of the season.”Marquez accepts he cannot call it the perfect season due to his while leading at the Americas MotoGP back in April, his only non-finish all year, with every other race resulting in him either winning (eight times) or finishing runner-up (five times). But the manner in which the 26-year-old has been able to dominate in MotoGP this year leaves him believing it is one of his best-ever campaigns.“It is one of my best seasons and it is not perfect, that doesn’t exist,” he said. “But apart from Austin at the other race tracks I have been very, very happy how we worked with the bike and with the team.“The team has been focused and I have concentrated more on our weak points and our weak tracks and that is where we have finished second sometimes but it is not the same as finishing second behind the top guy by five or six seconds. It has been just one-tenth.“The best way is that at our weak circuits we have fought until the last corners so I am happy. It is difficult to repeat for next year but we are working to improve ourselves, to improve the performance of the bike and the team and to try to be better and stronger.””4
