Michael Masi will continue to serve as the FIA-appointed Formula 1 race director at this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
Masi stepped into the role in the wake of Charlie Whiting’s death on the eve of the Australian Grand Prix race weekend beginning two weeks ago, overseeing activities throughout the F1 season-opener.
No permanent appointment has yet been made by the FIA, but F1’s governing body has now confirmed that Masi will continue as race director at the Bahrain International Circuit this weekend.

Colin Haywood will serve as the deputy race director to Masi, while Christian Bryll will be the permanent starter, taking over the role that Masi served in Australia.
There will be a minor change in the sporting regulations to reflect the change, which still reads that Whiting “shall be the Race Director, the Safety Delegate and the Permanent Starter” for all F1 events. This will be confirmed later in the weekend.
