Masi to continue as F1 race director until end of 2019

Michael Masi will continue in his role as the FIA’s race director until the end of the 2019 Formula 1 season.The former Supercars official worked as a deputy race director under Charlie Whiting until his shock death on the eve of the 2019 season-opening Australian Grand Prix.Masi took over the role initially in a caretaker capacity following Whiting’s passing and has filled the three positions of race director, permanent starter, and safety delegate at each of the 10 grands prix so far this year.Following the conclusion of Sunday’s British Grand Prix, Masi confirmed he would remain in the role until the end of the current season after a meeting with FIA president Jean Todt on Saturday.Asked if there has been any development on his role, Masi replied: “There has been, following a meeting with the president Jean Todt on Saturday, he’s advised me and the FIA team that I will be continuing in the role until the end of the 2019 season.”
