McLaren has confirmed the signing of Toro Rosso’s James Key in the role of technical director of its Formula 1 team.

Key, 46, became technical director at Toro Rosso in 2012 after previous stints with Sauber, Force India and Jordan, but will make the move to McLaren, with an official start date still to be confirmed.

Key’s arrival comes as part of McLaren’s ongoing management restructure, with racing director Eric Boullier resigning from his role earlier this month after four years.

McLaren’s technical leadership has also changed since the start of the season. Chief technical officer Tim Goss departed the team in April after a disappointing start to the season, while the team also confirmed on Thursday that engineering director Matt Morris has resigned from his position.

Key leaves Toro Rosso sat eighth in the constructors’ championship after 11 rounds of the 2018 season.
