Jorge Lorenzo has ‘strong bruising’ on his wrist and ankle, but fortunately ‘no fractures’ after suffering a monster highside during Free Practice 2 on Friday.

Already riding with an injured foot from Aragon, the triple MotoGP champion was thrown even higher into the air in Buriram when his factory Ducati appeared to suffer a technical problem during braking for the Turn 3 hairpin.

On-board footage seemed to suggest the engine stopped, causing his rear-wheel to lock, kick sideways and then pitch Lorenzo into the highside. The Spaniard was immediately gesturing to his injured foot as he sat in the gravel with pieces of his GP18 scattered across the track.

A tweet from Ducati says that Lorenzo will go to a local hospital for further scans:

Lorenzo, who had a tough time at the Buriram circuit during testing in February, began the day down in 17th place but had improved to seventh at the time of his fall, which brought out red flags (with just over ten minutes remaining) when Xavier Simeon fell on the debris.

Lorenzo’s team-mate Andrea Dovizioso went on to lead FP2, with less than 0.1s covering the top four riders. Lorenzo dropped to 16th place after missing the closing stages.
