Full Malaysian MotoGP FP3 results at SepangFabio Quartararo has retained top spot on the combined practice times after a late rain shower dampened the time attacks, but it didn’t stop Johann Zarco impressing to charge into the top 10 and the Q2 spots for LCR Honda. The Petronas Yamaha rider’s 1m 58.576s from FP2 was enough to keep the new lap record ahead of team-mate Franco Morbidelli, who did improve on his personal best lap time to move 0.185s off the MotoGP rookie and top FP3, as Marc Marquez produced similar gains in third place for Repsol Honda.Maverick Vinales has claimed fourth place on the Monster Yamaha overall to move within half a second of Quartararo before the rain flags were displayed throughout the final 10 minutes of FP3 to deny any outright fastest lap times.Vinales and Marquez dominated the early running in FP3 with both riders producing consistent long run pace in the 1m 59s bracket, while Quartararo was fractionally behind for Petronas Yamaha. With Andrea Dovizioso leading the Ducati charge in fifth place, Jack Miller found key gains in FP3 for Pramac Ducati to surge to sixth place directly ahead of an impressive display by the Australian’s team-mate Francesco Bagnaia to take seventh place.Valentino Rossi held on to an automatic Q2 spot despite failing to improve his personal best lap time which meant the Monster Yamaha rider was shuffled down to eighth place on the combined times. With Suzuki’s Alex Rins clinging on to ninth place, Johann Zarco starred to claim a Q2 position with 10th place on the combined times on just his second outing for LCR Honda as stand in for Takaaki Nakagami.Zarco’s final lap saw him effectively push out Phillip Island rostrum-finisher Cal Crutchlow on the sister LCR Honda, with the British rider ending FP3 in 12th place also behind Suzuki’s Joan Mir.Aleix Espargaro narrowly missed out on an automatic Q2 spot after messing up his final FP3 lap which left the Aprilia rider in 13th place.Danilo Petrucci’s Ducati woes continued down in 14th place ahead of Karel Abraham on the Avintia Ducati, with Pol Espargaro leading the Red Bull KTM effort in 16th place following a disastrous opening day for the Austrian manufacturer at Sepang.Jorge Lorenzo’s pace problems also continued at Repsol Honda as he finished FP3 in 17th place on the combined times, only ahead of Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone, Red Bull KTM’s Mika Kallio and Tech3 KTM’s Hafizh Syahrin.”4
