Fabio Quartararo could be forced to miss the opening 20-minutes of Free Practice 1 at this weekend’s Spanish MotoGP season opener, as punishment for training on a motorcycle that did not comply with the regulations regarding private testing on production bikes.However the Petronas Yamaha star, who was second fastest to Maverick Vinales at today’s official test, is to appeal the decision.Moto3 rider Sergio Garcia (Estrella Galicia 0,0) has also received the same penalty, for a similar offence.An FIM statement on Quartararo’s punishment, which refers to a training session on a modified R1 Superbike, can be seen below.Although some modifications are allowed for safety reasons, there are strict limits on what can be changed from the standard bike and the MotoGP Technical Director should be informed:    View this post on Instagram         20 jours et a sera sur la MotoGP / 20 days and back in the practice with my M1 A post shared by Fabio Quartararo (@fabioquartararo20) on Jun 27, 2020 at 5:10am PDTDear Sir,According to Article 3.5.5 of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, we confirm our decision.MotiveOn 18 and 19 June 2020 you were found to be training at the Paul Ricard circuit with a motorcycle specification that did not comply with Article 1.15.1 of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix Regulations.ConvocationYou were summoned to attend a hearing with the MotoGP Stewards Panel. You attended the hearing and acknowledged the facts presented. The MotoGP Stewards accept the explanation that the infraction was unintentional, however it does contravene Article 1.15.1 of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix Regulations.SanctionFor the above motive, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel has imposed on you a suspension of the first 20 minutes from the FP1 session of the GRAN PREMIO RED BULL DE ESPAÑA.Right of AppealAccording to Articles 3.4.2, 3.4.6, and 3.4.7 of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, you have the right to appeal against this decision of the MotoGP Stewards Panel to the FIM Appeal Stewards. A statement of appeal must be made within 30 minutes from the date and time of this notification, and accompanied by a security deposit of €1320.
