Razlan Razali is to step down as CEO of the Sepang Circuit to focus on his role as team principal for Petronas Sepang Racing in the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships.Razali – who has been fulfilling both roles until now – will be replaced as circuit CEO by Azhan Shafriman Hanif, a previous employee of Petronas.Appointed CEO on October 8, 2008, Razali has overseen a massive boost in crowd numbers at the Malaysian MotoGP, rising from just 50,000 in 2008 to over 170,000 (including sold-out race days) in recent seasons.Overall track usage now stands at 94% for the year.Sepang’s move into rider development programmes and team management was done as part of Razali’s plan to build home interest, culminating in Hafizh Syahrin becoming Malaysia’s first MotoGP rider in 2018 and the formation of the Petronas Yamaha MotoGP team in 2019.”By taking on the role of Team Principal of the Sepang Racing Team full-time, I will be able to focus 100% on my responsibilities,” Razali said. “I look forward to strengthening activation and engagement with Partners, attracting new companies to join us, improving the team’s function as a platform for Malaysians to compete in the MotoGP, and also strengthening the team’s corporate governance.”Being CEO of SIC was already living a dream; managing a World Championship team is even more amazing.
