Red Bull reaches agreement with Mercedes over signing F1 engine chief

In April, Red Bull announced the signing of Hodgkinson – who was head of engineering at Mercedes High-Performance Powertrains (HPP) – to run its own engine division.Hodgkinson will lead Red Bull Powertrains as the team will develop its own power unit for the next era of engines in 2025.He will be free to join the team from May 24.Red Bull decided to develop its own F1 engines after Honda decided to withdraw from the sport at the end of 2021.A statement from both teams read: “Mercedes F1 and Red Bull F1 today reached an agreement regarding the appointment of Ben Hodgkinson. Related Articles“Under the terms of that agreement, Ben, who joined Mercedes in August 2001, will be free to join Red Bull Powertrains from 24 May 2022.”Red Bull will continue to have support from Honda in 2022 before taking over the project entirely next year.Related Articles
