Alex Rins says he’s back in a positive place with Suzuki and sees the British MotoGP as an ideal opportunity to maintain his recent momentum given his dip before the summer break.Having been in contention to fight for the MotoGP world title earlier this year, Rins dropped to fourth place in the standings after consecutive es at Assen and Sachsenring leaving the Spaniard feeling underwhelmed going into the summer break. But with fourth place at Brno plus sixth place at the Red Bull Ring, one of Suzuki’s unfancied tracks, the 23-year-old has closed the gap to Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci to 12 points in the battle for third place in the standings.Rins heads to a happy hunting ground for Suzuki as the team claimed victory at Silverstone with Maverick Vinales back in 2016 – ending a nine-year win in MotoGP drought dating back to Chris Vermeulen’s Le Mans triumph in 2007.Having rediscovered a rhythm with his Suzuki GSX-RR, Rins is optimistic for a stronger showing at Silverstone.“I’m heading to Silverstone with a lot of motivation, I will aim to give my maximum there because it’s a track that I really enjoy and my current feeling with the bike is positive,” Rins said.“It will take some time to check the new surface, and of course the weather can have an impact on the race weekend, but I think I can secure a good result either way.“I’d like to send my best wishes to Joan as he is still recovering from his injury.”Rins is joined by Suzuki MotoGP test rider Sylvain Guintoli for the British round, with the Frenchman stepping in for the injured Joan Mir, and fresh from the first test at the new Finland venue, the KymiRing, he’s relishing the chance to return to racing action.“I’m arriving to Silverstone straight from the KymiRing, the new track in Finland,” Guintoli said. “Discovering a new track is a great experience – suddenly all references are gone, and it makes you realise just how fast the MotoGP bikes are!“It’s a challenging track and it’s great taking the GSX-RR through its paces.“Unfortunately, Joan is still recovering so I will replace him in Silverstone. It’s actually very close to my house so it’s an easy one for me.“I like this track, it’s a good one, I haven’t raced there for a bit [in 2017 in British Superbikes] so it will be good to be back there with the British fans.“I want to wish Joan all the best for his recovery and all the Team look forward to seeing him back at 100% soon.”
