Passenger Car Market Decreased By %44, Light Commercial Vehicle Market Decreased By 45,6%

Turkey’s passenger car and light commercial vehicle total market decreased by 44.16% in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of previous year, to 88,469. In the first quarter of 2018, total market sales figure was 158,430.

Passenger car sales went down by 43.74% in the first quarter of 2019, compared to the same period of previous year, to 68,812.

In the same period of 2018, the sales were 122,310. In January-March period of 2019, light commercial vehicle market decreased by 45.58%, in comparison to previous year, to 19,657. In the same period of previous year, the sales were 36,120.

Passenger Car and Light Commercial Vehicle Market Showed a Decrease of 35,5% in March 2019

In March 2019, passenger car and light commercial vehicle market decreased to 49,221. In comparison to the total number of 76,345 in March 2018, the sales went down in a ratio of 35.53%.

In March 2019, passenger car sales went down by 35.40% in comparison to the same month of the year before and were 38,628.

Last year, the sales were 59,798. Light commercial vehicle market decreased by 35.98% in March 2019 compared to March 2018, to 10,593.

Last year, the sales were 16,547. By the end of March 2019, a decrease of 44.7% in the sales of passenger cars below 1600cc and a decrease of 48.3% in the sales of passenger cars with a 1600-2000cc motor volume was observed.

As for the sales of the passenger cars over 2000cc, a decrease of 35.9% was observed. 43 electric cars and 1,833 hybrid passenger cars were sold in the first quarter of 2019. When the average emission values of the passenger car market in the end of March 2019 are considered, the passenger cars between 100-120g/km took the largest share with a ratio of 35.44%, with a number of 24,386.

By the end of March 2019, diesel passenger car sales share decreased to 54.36% while the automatic transmission passenger car sales share decreased to 63.58%.

By the end of March 2019, 84.9% of the passenger car market segment again consisted of the vehicles in the A, B and C segments. When evaluated according to segments, Segment C with a share of 61.4% reached the highest sales volume (42,243). When evaluated according to frame, most preferred body type was again Sedan (51.7%, a quantity of 35,554). By the end of March 2019, when evaluated according to body type, vans with a share of 72.12% had the highest sales volume (14,176), light trucks followed them with a share of 12.12% (2,382) while the share of minibuses was 8.44% (1,659) and the share of pick-ups was 7.33% (1,440) in light commercial vehicle market.
