KTM and Espargaro take a first pole position, for the Styrian MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring, ahead of Nakagami and Zarco.
Nakagami lost his (slightly slower) last lap for exceeding track limits at turn one, but also claimed a best-ever MotoGP qualifying.
Zarco underwent surgery for a fracture to the scaphoid bone in his right wrist on Wednesday, sustained in last Sunday’s huge accident with Morbidelli, but returned on Saturday and was instantly quick.
However, despite his heroics, the Frenchman will need to start the race from pitlane after being penalised for the incident with Morbidelli.
Miller was riding with pain in his shoulder after a Saturday morning fall.
Reigning world champion Marc Marquez is missing his fourth event after breaking his right arm in the MotoGP season opener, and is again replaced by Stefan Bradl.
Francesco Bagnaia, who suffered a fracture to his right tibia at Brno, is replaced by Ducati test rider Michele Pirro for the second time.
